Raipur South election announced, BJP Minister expresses confidence
Raipur: Along with the announcement of election dates for Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the Election Commission has also declared a by-election for the Raipur South Assembly seat in Chhattisgarh. Voting for this seat will take place on November 13, with counting scheduled for November 23.
State Cabinet Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal expressed confidence in the party's preparations, stating, "We are fully prepared and will contest the election effectively, securing a major victory in Raipur South." He further criticized Congress, saying, "Whenever Congress loses, they blame EVMs, but when they win, everything seems fine. Instead of blaming others, Congress needs to introspect."
Reports suggest that Sunil Soni is likely to be the BJP's candidate, though other names such as Sanjay Srivastava, Amit Sahu, Basant Agarwal, and Nandan Jain were also in contention at the time of reporting. The responsibility for the by-election could be handed over to MP Brijmohan Agrawal, who has a strong track record in Raipur South, making it a BJP stronghold.
The seat became vacant after Brijmohan Agrawal was elected to the Lok Sabha. The BJP is expected to announce its candidate soon. The final date for filing nominations is October 25, with scrutiny on October 28, and the last date for withdrawal on October 30.
Additionally, the Election Commission has announced by-elections across the country, with voting set for 48 Assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats in 15 states, including Maharashtra’s Nanded and Kerala’s Wayanad.
