Raipur South assembly bypoll, Congress kicks off campaign, candidate yet to be named
The political atmosphere in the Raipur South Assembly by-election is buzzing with activity. The Congress party kicked off its campaign on Sunday, making its intentions clear during a conference at Ashirwad Bhawan in Raipur, where strategies related to the assembly constituency were discussed. This gathering included both senior leaders and party workers.
PCC Chief Deepak Baij addressed the party workers, intensifying the electoral spirit. He stated, “The by-election has begun, and this election is crucial for us. It won’t significantly affect the BJP, but for Congress, it’s a lifesaver. The current government has created chaos in the state. In just 11 months, the Chhattisgarh government has led the state to turmoil.”
Baij highlighted the increase in crimes such as theft, murder, and violence against women during this short tenure. He mentioned that the party undertook a ‘Nyay Yatra,’ during which they interacted with villagers, noting a distinct lack of hope on their faces. “The villagers are terrified of the BJP government, and there’s widespread anger among the people of Chhattisgarh against this administration,” he added.
While addressing the workers, Baij asserted that Congress would make history in Raipur South this time. He emphasized that the public's voting will reflect their dissatisfaction with the current government's performance. “Misgovernance will be a significant electoral issue, as the people are fed up with the BJP.”
In Raipur South, with a total of 254 booths, Baij called for unity among all party workers to secure victory in the upcoming elections. He noted the significance of the festive season of Diwali, urging everyone to invest their time and efforts to ensure Congress’s success. “Winning this by-election will boost the morale of the Congress party and benefit us in the upcoming urban local body elections,” remarked Leader of the Opposition Charan Das Mahant.
Mahant emphasized the importance of communicating the achievements of the Congress government to the public. He insisted that Congress councilors must step forward to leverage their experiences effectively.
Former CM Bhupesh Baghel highlighted the urgency of the situation as the nomination process has begun. “The party may allocate tickets to anyone, but our workers are ready to contest this by-election. It is crucial to strategize and benefit from the experiences of senior leaders. The strategy should remain confidential,” he noted, urging all members to unite for the election.
AICC Joint Secretary and Chhattisgarh in-charge Vijay Jangid added, “During the last five years of Congress governance, we worked for all sections of society, but in the 11 months of the Saye government, public discontent has risen, crime has surged, and law and order have deteriorated. We must work together to ensure success in this by-election; we have plenty of issues against the government.”
