Raipur Police Uncover Elaborate Gang Involved in Extortion, Arrest Five Including Two Women

Raipur Police

Raipur Police have successfully uncovered a notorious gang involved in extortion and harassment, following a complaint from an Airtel employee. The gang, consisting of two women and three men, was engaged in a shocking and well-organized scam. The modus operandi of the gang left the victim in utter disbelief, as he was lured, blackmailed, and extorted in a carefully orchestrated plan.

The incident began when one of the women from the gang, posing as a potential customer, contacted the Airtel employee to install Wi-Fi. She asked him to come to a specific location, which he did, only to find two women at the spot. The women led the employee inside, where he was secretly filmed. Shortly after, two men arrived at the scene, who falsely identified themselves as police officers. They accused the employee of engaging in illicit activities, threatening to take him to the police station and brandishing a knife.

The gang then demanded money from the employee under the threat of violence. Unable to produce cash, the victim was coerced into transferring ₹8,000 via a QR code. After the transaction was completed, the gang members threatened the employee with severe consequences if he reported the matter to the authorities. However, the victim bravely approached the police and filed a complaint.

Detailed Investigation and Arrests

The police swiftly launched an investigation into the matter. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Santosh Singh revealed that the accused had been in contact with the victim, Raghav Mishra, a Wi-Fi installation technician at Airtel. One of the women, identified as Annu Agarwal, had received Raghav's contact number from her acquaintance Yash Prajapati. Under the pretext of getting a Wi-Fi connection installed, Annu, who introduced herself as Payal Sahu, arranged a meeting with Raghav at a location near Markatti Talab.

Upon arriving at the given location, Raghav was greeted by two women, including one named Khushboo Tiwari, who took him into a dilapidated house. Raghav grew suspicious, and while inside, the women secretly recorded a video of him. After a while, Khushboo went outside under the pretext of using the bathroom, only to return with two men, Pradeep Singh Boparai and Madan Sona. The men then began to physically assault Raghav, threatening him with a knife and accusing him of misconduct. The gang demanded ₹8,000, which Raghav transferred via QR code.

The police acted swiftly, registering a case under sections 319(2), 61(2), 311, 308(2) BNS of the IPC. They interrogated the key accused, Yash Prajapati, and were able to identify and apprehend all the culprits. During questioning, the accused admitted to their involvement in the crime.
