Raipur: ₹62 Lakh Cash Stolen from House, Victim Alleges Police Inaction
A mysterious theft of ₹62.71 lakh from a house in Raipur’s Mujgahan area has come to light. The stolen amount was part of a larger sum of ₹2.41 crore, reportedly obtained from the sale of land. The cash was kept in a divan by the victim, identified as the Sonkar family.
Details of the Incident
The Sonkar family reported that the money was stolen under suspicious circumstances. They discovered that ₹62.71 lakh was missing from the divan in which they had stored the entire amount. The family suspects someone familiar with the household might be behind the theft, as their house is part of a joint family setup with several members residing there.
Delayed Police Action
The family has alleged a lack of cooperation from the police, stating that they have been visiting the police station since October 24 to lodge a complaint. However, the police initially refused to register their case, citing the festive season as the reason for the delay.
It was only after 20 days that the complaint was officially registered. The family expressed frustration over the delay, which they believe hampered the investigation.
Investigation Underway
Sources suggest the theft might have been an inside job, given the familiarity required to locate and access the money. Police have now taken cognizance of the matter and are expected to interrogate members of the household.
Community Reaction
The incident has raised concerns about security and police efficiency in the area. Many have questioned the delay in registering the complaint and called for prompt action to ensure justice for the Sonkar family.
As the investigation progresses, the focus will remain on uncovering whether the theft was indeed orchestrated by someone within the family’s circle.
