A tragic incident unfolded in the Boro region of Dharamjaigarh Forest Division in Raigarh when a man was killed in a wild elephant attack. At the time of the incident, a herd of 11 elephants was roaming the area. In response, the Forest Department has provided immediate assistance of Rs 25,000 to the victim's family and has placed its personnel on high alert to prevent further human-elephant conflicts.

According to the Divisional Forest Officer of Dharamjaigarh, the herd of elephants entered the vicinity of Kamosindand from compartment number 654 R.F. and was moving past Rasakuriya hamlet near Rampur village. Villagers, standing nearby, tried to scare off the elephants by creating noise. Amid the commotion, five individuals returning from their fields encountered a lone male elephant that had separated from the herd. While four managed to escape, 54-year-old Ramlu Tirkey was unable to flee in time and was fatally attacked by the elephant.

Forest officials from Chalha and Krindha circles immediately arrived on the scene and found the victim deceased. The area guard was notified, who then reported the casualty to the Range Officer of Boro. Upon receiving the report, the Range Officer informed higher authorities and coordinated with local medical and law enforcement officials. A thorough investigation is underway, and an immediate compensation of Rs 25,000 has been granted to the victim’s family.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges in managing human-wildlife interactions and the need for heightened awareness and safety measures in regions frequented by wild elephants.
