Rahul Gandhi's Sambhal Visit Sparks High Tensions, Police on High Alert

Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with his sister and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are set to visit Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh following the recent violence during a survey at the Shahi Jama Masjid.

The visit has triggered heightened security arrangements as the Uttar Pradesh administration moves to block their entry into the district, citing a sensitive law and order situation.

Violence in Sambhal: The Trigger

The violence erupted during a court-mandated survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, with allegations that it was built on a Hindu temple site. The clashes left four people dead and several others injured. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 were imposed in Sambhal, and the entry of outsiders has been restricted until December 31 to maintain peace.

Congress Delegation’s Plan

Rahul Gandhi is leading a delegation of six Congress MPs from Uttar Pradesh, including state Congress chief Ajay Rai and General Secretary Avinash Pandey. Ajay Rai has stated that if stopped, the Congress leaders will stage protests en route to Sambhal.

Administration’s Response

District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia has instructed police in neighboring districts, including Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Amroha, and Bulandshahr, to stop the Gandhis from entering Sambhal. Massive traffic congestion has been reported at the Ghaziabad border, with police and Congress workers clashing over the blockade.

Security Measures and Political Fallout

Massive Security Deployment: The police have stationed forces at major entry points, including the Ghazipur border, Hapur toll plaza, and Amroha’s Brijghat, to prevent unauthorized entry.

Congress Supporters Mobilized: Party workers from nearby districts like Bulandshahr and Aligarh have gathered at the borders, pledging support to Rahul Gandhi.
