Rahul Gandhi Active in Delhi Ahead of Assembly Elections, Visits Markets and Engages with Residents

Rahul Gandhi

As political activities heat up in Delhi ahead of the 2025 Assembly Elections, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has been visibly active in the capital.

On Saturday, he made an unannounced visit to the Kalkaji constituency, where he interacted with vegetable vendors and spent time at a local resident's home.

Engagement in Kalkaji

Rahul Gandhi spent approximately 90 minutes in Kalkaji. He began his visit by walking through the vegetable and fruit market, engaging directly with vendors about their challenges.

He then visited the home of a local woman, where he stayed for about 45 minutes, discussing inflation and sipping tea with her family. Local Congress leader Khavindra Singh Captain revealed that residents, particularly women, had expressed a desire to meet Rahul Gandhi.

After an email was sent to his office, Gandhi made a surprise visit. Devi Bhardwaj, the homeowner, shared, "Rahul Gandhi came to my house, had tea, and spoke about rising prices. He walked with us in the market and listened to our struggles with inflation."

Previous Outreach Efforts

This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has engaged with Delhi's working-class communities. In recent weeks, he has:

Visited New Delhi Railway Station to interact with porters.

Toured the Kirti Nagar furniture market, speaking with carpenters.

Interacted with bike mechanics in Karol Bagh.

Walked through the bustling areas of Khan Market and Jama Masjid.

These visits align with his broader strategy of connecting directly with citizens and understanding grassroots issues.

Support for Farmers

Rahul Gandhi has also been vocal about farmers' issues. Recently, he criticized the government for its handling of farmer protests, particularly regarding MSP (Minimum Support Price) guarantees and debt relief. Referring to the hunger strike of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Gandhi urged the government to engage in dialogue and resolve the matter.

“Forcing farmers to resort to hunger strikes and protests repeatedly is unfortunate. After the sacrifices of over 700 farmers, the government remains indifferent. It’s time they accept these legitimate demands,” he stated on social media.

A Consistent Critique

Gandhi reiterated that just as the Modi government was compelled to withdraw the controversial farm laws, it would eventually have to accede to farmers' demands. He stressed that delaying the resolution would only deepen the crisis.

Congress's Strategy in Delhi

Rahul Gandhi's frequent visits to Delhi neighborhoods signal Congress’s focus on reconnecting with urban voters. By addressing key issues like inflation and employment and engaging directly with citizens, the party aims to rebuild its grassroots support in the capital.

As the Assembly Elections approach, Rahul Gandhi's outreach is likely to play a pivotal role in shaping Congress’s narrative and strategy in Delhi.
