Pune Hit-and-Run: Delivery Man Dies After Audi Rams with His Bike; Driver Detained
A tragic hit-and-run incident in Pune resulted in the death of a Swiggy delivery agent after an Audi rammed into two bikes within minutes late Thursday night. The police confirmed that the accused driver was apprehended shortly after fleeing the scene.
The accident occurred between 1:30 AM and 1:35 AM at Tadi Gutta Chowk. Initially, the Audi struck three individuals on an Activa, causing them to fall and sustain minor injuries. Moments later, the luxury vehicle collided with another bike, seriously injuring Rauf Akbar Sheikh, a delivery agent for Swiggy. Sheikh was rushed to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the police detained the driver, Ayush Pradeep Tayal, a 34-year-old resident of Hadapsar, after identifying him through nearby CCTV footage. The Audi involved in both accidents was also seized by authorities.
This incident follows a similar hit-and-run case in Pune on May 19, where a 17-year-old, allegedly intoxicated, struck a motorcycle carrying two IT professionals, resulting in their deaths. Public outrage ensued when the minor was granted bail within just 15 hours, with conditions that included writing a 300-word essay on road safety.
In another incident on July 16, an SUV allegedly driven by Saurabh, the son of former corporator and NCP (SP) leader Bandu Gaikwad, struck two pedestrians, injuring them. Reports indicate that Saurabh was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Additionally, a recent hit-and-run case in Mumbai saw a BMW collide with a two-wheeler carrying a couple in the Worli area, resulting in the death of a woman, who was dragged for 1.5 kilometers, while her husband sustained injuries. The accused, Mihir Shah, the son of a recently ousted Shiv Sena leader, has been arrested and is currently in judicial custody.
