Bangladesh Chief Justice to resign after protestors gather in front of the Supreme Court. Protestors gathered at Bangladesh Supreme Court, demanding Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan's resignation and giving him 1 PM Dhaka time ultimatum. Development follows a Facebook address by Youth Leader Asif Mahmud and a member of the interim government, calling for the CJI's resignation.

Following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the wake of recent protests in Bangladesh, student demonstrators have now shifted their focus to the Supreme Court, calling for the resignation of all judges, including the Chief Justice. Hundreds of students have surrounded the Supreme Court, demanding the Chief Justice's immediate departure, with reports indicating that the Chief Justice may have fled the scene.

The unrest was triggered by a full-court meeting convened by the Chief Justice without prior consultation with the newly established interim government. Students have accused the judiciary of conspiring against the new administration, fueling their demands for accountability and reform.

As the situation intensified, the planned full-court meeting was abruptly canceled. Protesters remained steadfast, issuing a one-hour ultimatum for the Chief Justice to resign.

These protests follow a student-led revolt against government hiring practices, which led to Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus assuming leadership of the caretaker government.

The recent turmoil has been severe, with over 450 people losing their lives during a month of violent demonstrations that ultimately ended the rule of 76-year-old Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
