Prayed to Almighty for solution to Ayodhya dispute, reveals Chief Justice of India
Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud expressed on Sunday, October 20, 2024, that he had prayed to God for a resolution to the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, affirming that faith can lead to divine solutions. He made these remarks while being honored by residents of his native Kanhersar village in Khed taluka.
“Frequently, we handle cases but fail to reach a resolution. A similar situation occurred during the Ayodhya dispute, which was presented to me for three months. I sat before the deity and asked for guidance in finding a solution,” CJI Chandrachud stated.
He reflected on his experience with the Supreme Court, where justices often receive cases that don’t yield clear resolutions. During the deliberations on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, he prayed for divine intervention, sharing, “I worship God regularly, and I told him to provide a solution.”
CJI Chandrachud emphasized that faith is powerful, stating, “Believe me, if you have faith, God will always find a way.” He highlighted the significance of the long-standing dispute, which centered on whether the 16th-century Babri Mosque was built after demolishing a temple at the site claimed to be Lord Ram's birthplace.
On November 9, 2019, a five-judge Supreme Court bench, including Justice Chandrachud, resolved the decades-long conflict by allowing the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya and designating a five-acre plot for a mosque.
Earlier this year, CJI Chandrachud visited the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to offer prayers during the idol consecration ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This resolution marked a significant moment in a dispute that spanned over 70 years and has been a contentious issue in Indian politics and society.
