Prayagraj Maha Kumbh: Special Training for UP Police to Include 'Soft Skills' and Gender Sensitization
Ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, UP Police officers assigned to the event will receive special training in 'gender sensitization' and 'soft skills.' This training is aimed at teaching police personnel how to interact with the millions of pilgrims, including saints and tourists, who will be attending the Kumbh. With a large number of female pilgrims expected, the training will also focus on appropriate behavior and gender sensitivity.
Gender Sensitization Training for Police Officers
The Uttar Pradesh government has ramped up preparations for the world's largest religious gathering, the Maha Kumbh. As part of these efforts, police officers stationed at the event will undergo special training focused on gender sensitivity. The training began on October 16 at Prayagraj's Parade Ground, with an emphasis on assisting female pilgrims. Given the vast numbers of women expected at the Kumbh, it is not feasible to station female officers everywhere. As a result, male officers are being trained to interact sensitively with women, ensuring respectful behavior and assistance. The first phase of the training program will last for 21 days, with two batches completing the program by December.
SSP Rajesh Dwivedi emphasized the Kumbh's motto: "Security Yours, Commitment Ours." The focus will be on ensuring that pilgrims have a positive experience, aided by the police’s courteous behavior and assistance throughout the event.
'Soft Skills' for Effective Pilgrim Assistance
In addition to their security duties, UP Police will be responsible for helping the large crowds of pilgrims, saints, and tourists. The officers will learn soft skills, including how to interact politely with pilgrims, guide them to bathing areas and accommodation, and provide directions when someone is lost. These soft skills will help ensure that police can manage the crowds efficiently while maintaining a respectful and helpful demeanor.
AI Technology for Better Communication
This year, technology will play a major role in managing the Kumbh. AI tools, such as the Bhashini app, will be used to communicate with foreign tourists and pilgrims from across the country in their respective languages. Police officers will also be trained to use chatbots for effective communication and assistance, providing real-time information to those in need.
An Estimated 400 Million Pilgrims Expected
The Uttar Pradesh government estimates that around 400 million people will attend the Maha Kumbh 2025, with a significant portion being women. Recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage event, the Kumbh Mela is the largest religious gathering in the world. The training provided to UP Police officers is part of a broader effort to ensure the smooth management of this massive event, making sure that pilgrims leave with a positive and memorable experience.
