In poll bound Chhattisgarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is to visit Rajnandgaon to participate in nomination of former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today. Shah is also to address a public meeting at the state high school ground and elaborate security preparations have been ensured for the event.
Rajnandgaon is among the constituencies that would vote on Nov 7 in the first phase itself. Congress has meanwhile asked why someone like former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh needs Amit Shah to campaign for him to ensure his win in the home turf.
Congress has pitted Girish Devangan, a close confidante of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, against Dr Raman Singh. Devangan too is confident of victory from this Rajnandgaon seat.
Meanwhile, Congress continues to deliberate on second list of candidates which might be released as early as Oct 18. It is likely that a Congress meeting is held on Oct 17 in Delhi and the list might be out by Oct 20 latest, as per the party sources here.
Congress has thus far released the names of thirty candidates and covered the seats where first phase voting is to be held and also all the sitting Ministers of the Bhupesh Baghel cabinet have been accommodated. Many Congress MLAs are nonetheless nervous if the party considers them winnable enough to field them in the current high stakes contest.
