Political Turmoil Erupts as BJP Leader Accused of Drunken Brawl Outside Palari Police Station in Balodabazar
Balodabazar’s political scene was thrown into disarray following an alleged incident involving BJP leader and Palari Municipal Council President, Yashvardhan "Monu" Verma, who is accused of hosting a drinking party outside the Palari Police Station late Friday night. The incident reportedly escalated into a confrontation between BJP members and police personnel, with Verma allegedly making controversial statements, even proclaiming himself as "the biggest goon." The police have now launched an investigation into the incident.
Allegations of a Drunken Gathering Outside Palari Police Station
According to police sources, following an event by Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai on Friday night, BJP members allegedly hosted a drinking party outside the Palari Police Station. With music blaring from their vehicles, BJP supporters, including Verma, allegedly engaged in dancing and drinking, leading to an altercation with police officers. The situation soon spiraled into a physical scuffle between the police and BJP representatives, with a crowd led by BJP members reportedly gathering outside the police station and causing further disruption. A video of Verma allegedly threatening police officers has since surfaced, adding fuel to the fire.
This incident has reportedly unsettled local law enforcement, as allegations of misconduct by Verma and his associates toward the police staff have raised significant concerns within the administration.
Police Actions Following the Incident
Following the commotion, the police station was placed under heightened security, and Balodabazar Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal took swift action by suspending Station Officer Kesar Parag Banjara, along with two constables, Ram Mohan Rai and Manish Banjare. The suspension, intended to avoid interference in the ongoing investigation, signals the police department’s commitment to examining the incident thoroughly.
“The officers were sent to intervene when Verma and his associates played loud music near the temple, disturbing women praying nearby. However, Verma and his group became confrontational,” stated Kesar Parag, Station Officer of Palari. Constable Manish Kumar Banjare reported that Verma verbally abused and physically attacked him, calling him "a low-rank officer" during the altercation.
Congress and BJP Leaders React
The incident has also sparked a fierce exchange between local political leaders. Balodabazar District Congress President Hitendra Thakur condemned the BJP members involved, alleging that they were engaged in disorderly conduct under the influence of alcohol, leading to a confrontation with the police. He further criticized the suspension of police officers, attributing it to BJP’s alleged political pressure, which, according to him, exemplifies the current government’s "autocratic" approach.
On the other hand, BJP District President Sanam Jangde defended Verma, asserting that he is a respected community figure and blaming the police for initiating the altercation. Jangde praised the swift administrative action taken against the police personnel involved, suggesting that justice was served.
Ongoing Investigation
The department has now launched an internal investigation against the suspended officers, ensuring that the inquiry remains impartial. ASP Balodabazar Abhishek Singh confirmed the formation of a special team to investigate the incident thoroughly. “The suspension is a procedural step to prevent any interference with the investigation. Following the findings, further actions will be taken,” he stated.
This incident has sparked a political firestorm in Balodabazar, with all eyes on the ongoing investigation as officials work to uncover the full scope of what transpired. The outcome could have far-reaching implications, potentially impacting both local law enforcement and the region’s political dynamics.
