In a major breakthrough, police successfully recovered an IED planted by Naxalites in the canal of the Chitrakonda Reservoir, near Malkangiri, close to the Sukma district headquarters, averting a significant potential disaster. The Naxalites had planted the IED to target security personnel during their routine patrols. However, before the insurgents could carry out their plans, BSF jawans discovered the IED and safely defused the bomb.

Reports suggest that the Naxalites had placed the 1.5 kg IED in the Bodigatta forests, near the Kalimeta Police Station, with the intent to blow up the canal of the Chitrakonda Reservoir. This area is part of the Bhejangwada Reserve Forest, a known Naxalite hideout. Along with the IED, police also found an electronic detonator and electric wires. The bomb was hidden in a steel tiffin box filled with explosives. The swift action by BSF jawans saved the lives of security personnel, preventing a major tragedy.
