Police officials transferred, after order from Election Commission, Srinagar has new SSP
In a significant step, the Jammu and Kashmir government appointed four officers from the J&K Police Services (JKPS) to key positions in the state. This decision, approved by the Election Commission of India, includes the appointment of Imtiyaz Hussain Mir as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Srinagar, Mohammad Zaid as SSP for Baramulla, Ghulam Jeelani Wani as SSP for Kupwara, and Ifroz Ahmad as Superintendent of Police (SP) for Handwara.
The Principal Secretary Home, Chandrakar Bharti, issued an order detailing the transfers and new assignments of seven police officials, including two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The Election Commission had directed the transfer of senior police officials from these districts and the Handwara SP earlier this week and requested a panel of IPS officers to fill these positions.
IPS officers Gurinderpal Singh and Shobhit Saksena have been reassigned from their roles as SSPs of Baramulla and Kupwara to Incharge Director Police Telecommunications and SSP CID (Headquarters), respectively. Dawood Ayoub, formerly SP Handwara, has been appointed as SSP CID (Headquarters).
The Election Commission's directive aims to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
