Police Catch 'Runaway Bride', Arrest Woman for Stealing Jewelry and Money from Wealthy Men After Marriage

A notorious case of a thieving bride has been uncovered in Rajasthan, where a woman, previously seen as a slim and smart model wife, has been arrested for robbing a famous jeweler in Dehradun. The woman used a marriage app to trap her victims, gaining their trust before stealing over 36 lakh rupees worth of jewelry and cash.

The case was first reported in July 2023 when a jeweler from Jaipur filed a complaint with the police. The man, a widower with children, had registered on a marriage app to find a new life partner.

He met the woman through the app, and after traveling to Dehradun to meet her, they got married in February 2023. However, just months after their wedding, the woman, whom the jeweler now refers to as a "looteri dulhan," made off with jewelry and cash worth 36.5 lakh rupees, leaving the victim stunned by her betrayal.

The police investigation revealed that the woman, originally from Dehradun, had a history of duping wealthy men. According to DCP Amit Kumar, she had previously targeted businessmen and engineers, trapping them into marriage before stealing their valuables. After each theft, she would blackmail her victims, threatening to file false harassment charges or other legal cases if they attempted to confront her.

The police, after receiving leads, raided the woman’s house in Dehradun and arrested her. Investigations suggest that the woman used marriage apps to target wealthy, often divorced, men, building rapport with them over time and gaining access to their homes and finances.

After winning their trust, she would steal valuables and disappear, often with large amounts of cash and jewelry. The woman’s modus operandi involved staying with her victims for a few months, during which she would integrate herself into their families and earn their trust.

Once she felt secure, she would seize the opportunity to steal the valuables before vanishing without a trace. Moreover, when the victims tried to report her or retrieve their stolen belongings, she resorted to blackmail. She would threaten her victims with false legal cases, especially against their families, to prevent them from pursuing justice.

In her latest case, the woman had married a businessman in February 2023 and, after five months, fled with 36 lakh rupees worth of valuables. Upon investigation, it was revealed that she had previously married men in other states, including an engineer in Gurugram, and extorted money from them in the guise of settlements.

The police are currently interrogating the woman, hoping that further investigation will uncover more victims and bring additional cases to light. This "looteri dulhan" has reportedly extorted over 1.25 crore rupees from her victims across different states.

The police are urging others who may have been targeted to come forward.
