PM Modi embarks on three-day U.S. visit, Quad meet, meet with President Biden, diaspora event on itinerary
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a three-day visit to the U.S. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, he emphasized that the Quad has become a crucial alliance of like-minded nations dedicated to promoting peace, progress, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
In his departure statement, PM Modi outlined his agenda, which includes participating in the Quad Summit hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden in Wilmington, as well as addressing the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He noted that his meeting with President Biden will provide an opportunity to "review and explore new pathways to deepen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for the benefit of our peoples and the greater global good."
Leaving Delhi on Saturday morning, PM Modi is scheduled to hold discussions with Biden, followed by meetings with leaders of the Quad group—Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and President Biden—during the summit in Wilmington.
"I look forward to joining my colleagues President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese, and Prime Minister Kishida at the Quad Summit," PM Modi stated, highlighting the group's role as a key forum for fostering cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
He reiterated that his meeting with President Biden would further strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between New Delhi and Washington. Following the Quad Summit, PM Modi will address the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly on September 23, where he is expected to discuss paths for improving global welfare and opportunities for the international community.
"The Summit of the Future presents a chance for the global community to map out the future for the betterment of humanity. I will voice the perspectives of one-sixth of humanity, as their stakes in a peaceful and secure future are among the highest in the world," he said.
PM Modi expressed eagerness to engage with the Indian diaspora during his visit, noting that he will meet community members at a significant event at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York.
"I am looking forward to connecting with the Indian diaspora and key American business leaders, who are vital to the unique partnership between the world's largest and oldest democracies," he added. This visit marks PM Modi's first trip to the U.S. following his recent victory in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.
