In a recent address at the Lakhpati Didi conference in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the unprecedented efforts of his government for women's empowerment since independence. He emphasized that no previous administration has undertaken as many initiatives for women as his government has. During his speech, Modi also addressed the issue of crimes against women.

Recalling his campaign promise to empower 30 million women through the Lakhpati Didi program, Modi affirmed that he has fulfilled this commitment. He described the program as not only a means to enhance women’s incomes but also a step toward empowering future generations. Modi praised the strength of Indian women, noting their significant contributions to societal and national progress. He reiterated that as the country strives for development, women’s roles are increasingly pivotal.

Amidst rising outrage over the recent tragic incident involving a trainee doctor in Kolkata, Modi stressed the government's commitment to strengthening laws against crimes targeting women. He announced new legal provisions, including the death penalty and life imprisonment for sexual offenses against minors, and clarified that false promises of marriage and related frauds are now explicitly defined in Indian law.

Modi assured that the central government is fully supporting state governments in preventing atrocities against women and emphasized the need to eradicate the detrimental mindset prevalent in society. He also reiterated that those involved in or protecting perpetrators of such crimes should face severe consequences. The Prime Minister asserted that negligence in hospitals, schools, colleges, and police departments must be addressed and that the protection of women should be a top priority across all sectors of society.
