Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, occasion of reflection in India, heres what PM Modi said

Partition Horrors Remembrance

August 14 is a day marked by significant historical events, both in India and around the world. This date is especially poignant in Indian history due to its connection with the 1947 partition, a division under British colonial rule that led to the creation of Pakistan as a separate Muslim-majority nation. The partition resulted in the displacement of millions and widespread violence, claiming countless lives. To honor the memory of those affected, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in 2021.

In addition to being Pakistan's Independence Day, August 14 now serves as a day of reflection in India, commemorating the suffering and sacrifices of those who endured the partition. Universities, government bodies, and cultural institutions across India, including Delhi University and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, observe the day with various events such as exhibitions and film screenings to honor the victims of this tragic chapter in history.

The Ministry of Culture has emphasized the need for sensitivity in these commemorations, ensuring that no part of society is offended during the observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. This initiative aims to remember the tragedy with respect and solemnity, acknowledging the deep pain and enduring impact of the partition on the collective memory of the nation.
