Parliamentarian questions tone of Chairman, leads to uproar in Rajya Sabha

During Rajya Sabha proceedings, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan criticized Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar's tone, leading to a significant uproar.

Parliamentarian

During the Rajya Sabha proceedings in Parliament, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan questioned the tone of Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Jaya Bachchan said, "I am an artist. I understand body language and expressions. I apologize, but your tone is not acceptable. It is not appropriate." The Chairman was provoked by Bachchan’s remarks, leading to a major uproar in the Rajya Sabha, with the opposition walking out and chanting "Dadaagiri nahi chalegi" (bullying will not be tolerated).

In response to Bachchan, the Chairman remarked, "You have achieved great success, and you know the subject of an actor-director. You are questioning my tone. I will not tolerate this. You are a celebrity." The opposition countered by stating that Bachchan is a senior member of Parliament and should not be referred to as a celebrity.

The Chairman retorted that the senior member was undermining the Chair, and stated, "I have my script." The opposition members, continuing to protest, walked out of the house, leading the Chairman to accuse them of avoiding their duties. He referenced historical events like the Quit India Movement and the Emergency to question the opposition's stance.

Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan said, "I raised an objection to the Chairman’s tone. We are not schoolchildren. We are all senior members, especially when the Leader of the Opposition (Mallikarjun Kharge) stood up to speak and the microphone was turned off. How can you do that? It goes against tradition. If you don’t allow him to speak, what are we here for? He always uses unparliamentary language. He said that you are a celebrity and it doesn’t matter to him... This is an insult to women. I demand an apology."

Leader of House JP Nadda said that the conduct of the Opposition was improper and condemnable. He moved "ninda prastav" over behaviour of the Opposition in the House.
