Parliament Budget Session to Begin on January 31; Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Present Union Budget on February 1

New Delhi: The budget session of Parliament is set to commence on January 31 and will continue until April 4, 2025. The session will begin with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, marking the official start of the proceedings.
On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Two Phases of the Budget Session
The session will be conducted in two phases:
Phase 1: January 31 to February 13 Recess: February 14 to March 9
Phase 2: March 10 to April 4
During the session, several important discussions and reports are anticipated, including the presentation of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill report by the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
Key Discussions on the Agenda
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the debate on the motion of thanks for the President's address. Additionally, discussions are expected on the implementation of "One Nation, One Election", with the Joint Parliamentary Committee's report likely to be presented during the session.
The committee, which held its first meeting earlier this month, may request an extension of its tenure to finalize the report.
Heightened Attention on the Budget Session
This session holds significant political interest following controversies and protests during the recent winter session, which included disputes between the BJP and opposition parties and police complaints regarding protests held within the Parliament complex.
The budget session is expected to be a pivotal platform for debates on key policies, legislative reforms, and government initiatives as the Union Budget for 2025-26 is unveiled.
