Paris Paralympics 2024, India's Nishad Kumar secures silver medal
India's Nishad Kumar secured a silver medal in the men's high jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024, marking his second Paralympic medal following his silver in Tokyo 2021.
The 24-year-old achieved a season-best jump of 2.04 meters but finished behind American Roderick Townsend, who claimed gold with a 2.12-meter jump.
Despite missing his third attempt at 2.08 meters, Nishad displayed a commendable performance. His achievement contributed to India's growing medal tally, which now includes three in athletics.
Meanwhile, fellow Indian high jumper Ram Pal finished seventh with a personal best of 1.95 meters. Nishad's journey in para-athletics began after a severe accident at age six, but he has since risen to become a significant figure in the sport, fueled by his passion and determination.
