Paris Olympic 2024, Indian boxer Nishant Dev's hopes for medal dashes, social media erupts
Indian boxer Nishant Dev's dream of winning a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics has been dashed. In the men's boxing 71 kg weight category, Nishant faced Mexico's Marco Verde and lost with a score of 1-4. Had Nishant won the quarter-final, he would have secured at least a bronze medal. Despite taking the lead in the first round, he ended up losing the match. So far, India has won three bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, all in shooting events.
Nishant won the opening round comfortably. Four out of five judges scored him 10-10 in the first round. In the second round, Nishant appeared to be in full control, landing several powerful jab hooks on the Mexican opponent. However, surprisingly, the judges favored Verde in that round. Only two judges awarded 10-10 points to Nishant, while three judges decided in favor of Verde.
