Owaisi Accuses BJP and RSS of Spreading Rumors About Waqf, Shares Data on Hindu Religious Land Holdings

BJP

Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of AIMIM, has once again criticized the central government’s proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, sharing data on land controlled by Hindu religious institutions to counter what he calls "rumors" spread by the BJP and RSS about Waqf properties.

Owaisi pointed out on social media that under various state laws, Hindu religious institutions manage vast land holdings. He cited, for example, that Andhra Pradesh's 1987 Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions Act oversees around 4 lakh acres, while Telangana’s similar act covers 87,235 acres of temple land. In Tamil Nadu, the TNHR&CE Act controls over 4.78 lakh acres, with four state boards controlling over 10 lakh acres collectively.

Owaisi emphasized that in several states, non-Hindus cannot serve on Hindu endowment boards, contrasting this with the government’s push for non-Muslims in Waqf boards. He argued that rules should be consistent across all religious institutions, criticizing BJP and RSS for what he terms as spreading misinformation on Waqf.

Owaisi also previously questioned TTD Board Chairman B.R. Naidu's statement that only Hindus should work in temples, pointing out the inconsistency in mandating non-Muslims in Waqf bodies while maintaining exclusive membership in Hindu endowment boards.
