Over eight lakh houses approved, under PM Awas, Chief Minister Sai slams previous govt
The central government has approved the construction of 846,931 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for Chhattisgarh. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that this scheme is dedicated to the welfare of the poor. He criticized the previous Bhupesh Baghel government, stating that 1.8 million families in the state were deprived of this benefit because the scheme bore the Prime Minister's name. Addressing the press alongside Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma and Durg MLA Gajendra Yadav, the Chief Minister expressed his joy at this approval and highlighted the need to reach out to those who were excluded during the Congress-led government.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a scheme aimed at improving the lives of the poor. He accused the previous government of denying this benefit to millions simply because it was associated with the Prime Minister. He also mentioned that during the election campaign, Prime Minister Modi had promised to prioritize this issue, and the BJP government fulfilled that promise in its very first cabinet meeting.
Due to the previous state government’s failure to contribute its share, central funds were allocated to other states. However, with the approval of 846,000 houses, many people who were left out by the previous administration will now benefit. Among these, 24,000 houses have already been completed for the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
The Chief Minister also alleged that the previous government had approved 47,090 houses under a separate scheme, of which 25,000 had been sanctioned. He assured that the current administration would not discriminate and that the remaining beneficiaries from the previous government’s scheme would also receive housing under the new initiative.
Furthermore, Vishnu Deo Sai mentioned that the Niyad Nellenar scheme has led to development in Naxal-affected areas. He had requested additional housing for these regions from Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and expressed hope that approval for 10,000 more houses would be granted, which would benefit surrendered Naxalites.
