On X, public posts to go visible, even for blocked users
X, formerly known as Twitter, is altering its block feature, allowing public posts to be visible to everyone on the platform, including users who have been blocked. The update will let blocked individuals see public posts, although they will still be unable to interact with the user. Elon Musk, the owner of X, confirmed the change, explaining that the block feature will prevent engagement but not the visibility of public posts.
Currently, when a user is blocked, they receive a “You’re blocked” message and cannot see the account’s profile, followers, replies, or media. However, Musk has argued that the block function "makes no sense" and should be replaced with a stronger mute option. The change stems from the fact that users can still view posts from those who blocked them by logging out or using another account.
This move may also be aimed at increasing the visibility of advertisements to all users, including those who are blocked. The exact timeline for when the feature will go live has not been confirmed, but it marks a significant shift in X’s approach to content visibility and user interaction.
