A 9-foot-long crocodile was safely rescued after it wandered into a residential housing society in Mulund, Mumbai, on Sunday morning. The rescue was carried out by the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) in collaboration with forest department officials. The incident occurred near Nirmal Lifestyle, and a distress call was made to the forest department control room. Pawan Sharma, founder of RAWW and Honorary Wildlife Warden with the forest department, confirmed the female Indian Marsh Crocodile was rescued at around 6:30 am. Following a medical examination by RAWW veterinarians Dr. Priti Sathe and Dr. Kirti Sathe, the crocodile was deemed healthy and released into its natural habitat.

This is not the first crocodile sighting in Mumbai; in July, a crocodile was spotted in the Mithi River, causing concern among residents, though it was noted that the river is part of the animal’s natural habitat. In the same month, heavy rainfall led to another sighting, when a large crocodile was found walking along a main road in Chiplun, surprising locals.

In this latest incident, the quick action by RAWW and the forest department ensured the crocodile was safely returned to the wild without harm.
