New Service Road and Satellite-Based Toll System Set to Enhance Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway
Commuters on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway are set to benefit from significant upgrades as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announces plans for a comprehensive service road and a satellite-based toll collection system. These developments aim to improve connectivity and reduce delays, addressing long-standing challenges faced by travelers along this key 119-kilometer corridor.
Service Road to Enhance Accessibility
A dedicated service road will be constructed on the Bengaluru-to-Mysuru side of the expressway, eliminating the need for lengthy detours and improving access to towns such as Bidadi, Channapatna, and Maddur. The absence of a full-service road has been a source of inconvenience for commuters, forcing them to take extended routes to enter or exit the expressway.
The NHAI has already completed ground surveys to determine the necessary locations for underpasses and overpasses to tackle obstacles such as railway lines and hilly terrain. With tenders issued for the project, construction is expected to begin soon after the tendering process concludes.
Satellite-Based Toll System to Ease Congestion
In addition to the service road, the expressway will adopt a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) for toll collection, aiming to reduce congestion at toll plazas. This satellite-based system will allow vehicles to pay tolls seamlessly without stopping, significantly cutting down delays caused by traditional toll booths.
The Indian Highways Management Corporation Limited will oversee the implementation of the GNSS system. Surveys and studies for the installation have already been completed, and the tendering process is set to commence shortly.
Benefits for Commuters
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway was originally designed to reduce travel time and streamline traffic between the two cities. These new upgrades promise to further enhance the commuting experience:
Smoother Connectivity: The service road will provide easier access to and from the expressway for towns along the route.
Reduced Delays: The satellite-based toll system will ensure faster, more efficient toll payments.
Enhanced Infrastructure: Additional underpasses and overpasses will address natural and man-made barriers, improving overall road safety and convenience.
These developments reflect the NHAI’s commitment to addressing commuter concerns and modernizing India’s highway infrastructure. Once completed, the upgraded expressway is expected to set a new benchmark for efficient and traveler-friendly roadways.
