Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique fatally shot near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai; two suspects arrested, third still at large, raising concerns over Maharashtra’s law and order situation.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique was fatally shot by three unidentified assailants on Saturday night in Mumbai. The attack occurred near the office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique, at Colgate ground, Nirmal Nagar. Police confirmed that the attackers fired multiple rounds, critically injuring Siddique, who was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that two suspects have been apprehended, one from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana, while a third is still at large. Shinde emphasized the need for strict action, stating that the authorities will ensure no one disturbs law and order in Mumbai.

Baba Siddique had reportedly received threats 15 days prior, resulting in upgraded Y-level security. Several opposition leaders expressed concern over the state’s law and order situation, with accusations of administrative failure.

Siddique, a three-term MLA from Bandra West, had recently joined Ajit Pawar's faction of the NCP after leaving the Congress earlier this year. He had also served as a Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies, Labour, and the FDA during his political career. Notably, Siddique was known for hosting grand iftar parties attended by Bollywood stars.

His death has drawn widespread condemnation, including from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who promised swift justice. Additionally, speculation has arisen regarding a possible connection to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, as Siddique had close ties to actor Salman Khan, who has faced alleged threats from the gang.

Siddique is widely credited for resolving the high-profile rift between Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. The two actors had a heated argument in 2008, leading to years of avoiding each other at public events. However, in 2013, during Siddique's famous Iftar party, which was attended by many prominent figures from the industry, the Khans finally reconciled. They shared a hug, ending their five-year-long feud.

Though Siddique had limited ties to the film industry, his role in mending relations between two of its biggest stars solidified his influence within Bollywood’s social circle.
