At the annual Navy Day press conference, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi discussed significant developments within the Indian Navy, ranging from missile tests to regional maritime security dynamics.
Successful Missile Test from INS Arighaat
Admiral Tripathi confirmed the successful test of a nuclear-capable missile launched from the submarine INS Arighaat. He stated, "India carried out a test of the missile, and the launch was successful. The concerned agencies are currently examining the missile's trajectory, and results will be available soon." He added that the nuclear submarine INS Arihant has conducted multiple deterrence patrols, showcasing its operational readiness. "The second submarine has successfully carried out a missile test and will continue to fulfill its strategic roles," said Admiral Tripathi.
Progress on Rafale Marine and Scorpene Submarines
Discussing the proposed Rafale Marine combat aircraft deal with France, the Navy Chief said negotiations are at an advanced stage. "We are just one step away from taking the deal to the Cabinet Committee on Security. Being a government-to-government deal, it should not take much time," he explained. The Navy hopes to finalize agreements for the Rafale Marine jets and three additional Scorpene submarines by next month.
Focus on Countering Regional Threats
Admiral Tripathi highlighted the increasing naval capabilities of Pakistan, supported by China. "Pakistan Navy is undergoing significant expansion with Chinese assistance, including the development of eight new submarines with considerable combat potential," he noted. The Admiral assured that the Indian Navy is well-aware of these advancements and is adapting its strategies to address potential threats. He also commented on Pakistan’s naval ambitions, saying, "They aim to build a 50-ship Navy but prioritize weapons over the welfare of their people."
Indian Navy’s Modernization Efforts
On the progress of nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs),Admiral Tripathi stated, "These submarines will be ready within the timeframe indicated to the government." The Navy Chief emphasized India’s focus on bolstering its maritime capabilities to maintain security in the region.
