"Nation in Mourning, Yet He Went to Vietnam": Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai Criticizes Rahul Gandhi

Chhattisgarh

The political spat between the BJP and Congress has intensified following the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

On Thursday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for traveling to Vietnam shortly after Singh's passing, calling it a "disrespectful act."

CM Sai’s Remarks

Speaking to the media, CM Sai expressed his disapproval, stating, “It is deeply saddening. On one hand, Rahul Gandhi calls Dr. Manmohan Singh his mentor, yet he disrespects him in Parliament by tearing his papers. After Dr. Singh’s demise, the country declared a seven-day national mourning, but Rahul Gandhi chose to leave for Vietnam. This is highly condemnable.”

BJP’s Attack on Rahul Gandhi

The criticism aligns with earlier remarks by BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, who had lambasted Rahul Gandhi on December 29 for not participating in Dr. Singh’s ashes immersion ceremony. On December 30, Malviya took to X (formerly Twitter), accusing Rahul Gandhi of celebrating New Year in Vietnam while the nation mourned the loss of the former Prime Minister. Malviya wrote, “Rahul Gandhi politicized Dr. Singh’s death and used it for his agenda. The Gandhi family and Congress have always harbored animosity towards Sikhs. Let us not forget how Indira Gandhi desecrated the Darbar Sahib.”

Congress Retaliates

Congress MP Manickam Tagore hit back at the BJP, questioning their motives. He tweeted, “When will the RSS stop their 'diversion politics'? It is disgraceful how PM Modi denied Dr. Manmohan Singh a proper cremation space near the Yamuna and sidelined his family. Why does Rahul Gandhi’s personal trip bother you so much? Focus on governance, and let us move forward in the New Year.”

Nation Mourns the Loss of a Statesman

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away last week at the age of 92, was cremated with state honors at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi.

A respected economist and politician, his death has left a void in Indian politics. The controversy surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s Vietnam trip has added fuel to the ongoing political rivalry, reflecting the deep divide between the two parties even during a time of national mourning.
