In a shocking turn of events, Aliya Fakhri, sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested in New York for allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s home, resulting in two deaths. The tragic incident occurred in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, where the fire caused the deaths of Edward Jacobs (35) and Anastasia Ettienne (33) due to smoke inhalation and severe burns.

What Happened?

According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Aliya allegedly started the fire on November 2 at around 6:20 am in a detached garage near Jacobs’ home. Witnesses reported hearing Aliya scream, “You’re all going to die today,” before the fire engulfed the structure, trapping the victims inside. Jacobs, a plumber and father of three, and Ettienne, who tried to rescue him, were unable to escape.

Authorities revealed that Jacobs had ended his relationship with Aliya about a year ago, but she allegedly continued to pursue him. Jacobs’ mother stated, “He’s been trying to tell her to leave him alone for the past year, but she wasn’t accepting the rejection.”

Legal Proceedings

Aliya Fakhri, 43, has been charged with multiple counts of first-degree and second-degree murder and arson. If convicted, she could face a life sentence. She was remanded to Rikers Island and has pleaded not guilty. Her next court hearing is scheduled for December 9.

Nargis and Aliya’s mother has denied the allegations, describing Aliya as a caring individual. Speaking to local media, she said, “I don’t think she would be killing someone.
