Muslims should be given 32 tickets, says Congress leader Husain Dalwai ahead of Maharashtra election

Senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai advocates for 24 seats for Muslims in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, emphasizing the need for adequate representation during a crucial meeting of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

Maharashtra is set to hold assembly elections this November, prompting the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to hold a series of meetings. Meanwhile, the Mahayuti alliance is also strategizing for the upcoming elections. However, on Friday, a demand from senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai could complicate matters for the MVA. Dalwai, a former member of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, has called for 24 seats to be allocated for Muslims within the MVA, arguing for their rightful representation.

Recently, a significant meeting on seat-sharing for the Maharashtra assembly elections took place at the Sofitel Hotel in Bandra, involving key figures from the MVA. Participants included Sanjay Raut and Anil Desai from the Uddhav faction, Nana Patole, Vijay Wadettiwar, and Balasaheb Thorat from Congress, as well as Jayant Patil and Jitendra Awhad from the Sharad faction. The meeting lasted approximately four hours.

"Out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats, not a single seat was given to Muslims. We didn’t complain at that time because the most important thing was to remove PM Modi. Muslims voted in large numbers for MVA and the INDIA bloc (during the Lok Sabha election). In the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, Muslims should be given 32 seats, but I’m not asking for 32, I’m asking for 24 (from MVA). This should not only come from Congress but from all MVA parties combined," says Congress leader Husain Dalwai.
