New Delhi: A 23-year-old man from Shakarpur, Delhi, was arrested on Friday for deceiving over 700 women by posing as a US-based model on dating platforms.

During the day, Tushar Singh Bisht worked as a recruiter at a private company in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, while at night, he transformed into an American model on a self-reflection trip to India.

His day job provided him with stability, but it was his nocturnal activities that allowed him to earn money through manipulation and blackmail.

Tushar's Background: Tushar, a resident of Delhi, holds a bachelor's degree in business administration (BBA). For the past three years, he had been employed as a technical recruiter at a private company in Noida. His father is a driver, his mother is a homemaker, and his sister works in Gurugram.

Despite holding a stable job, Tushar descended into the world of cybercrime, driven largely by greed and lust for women.

Modus Operandi: Tushar used a virtual international mobile number acquired through an app to create fake profiles on popular dating and social media platforms like Bumble and Snapchat.

He presented himself as a freelance model from the United States visiting India, using a fabricated identity based on stolen photos and stories of an actual Brazilian model. His primary targets were women aged 18-30, whom he befriended on these platforms. Once he gained their trust, Tushar would ask for their phone numbers and intimate photos or videos under the guise of friendship.

Unbeknownst to his victims, he saved these visuals on his phone. Initially, these interactions were for personal gratification, but over time, they evolved into a systematic extortion scheme.

Blackmailing and Fraud: According to the police, Tushar used the intimate content to blackmail the women into sending him money. If any victim refused his demands, he threatened to upload their explicit content online or sell it on the dark web.

The Victims: The police investigation revealed that Tushar had engaged with over 500 women on Bumble and more than 200 on Snapchat and WhatsApp. One such case came to light when a second-year Delhi University student filed a complaint with the Cyber Police Station on December 13, 2024.

Her ordeal began in January 2024 when she connected with Tushar on Bumble. He introduced himself as an American model and initiated a friendship, which later transitioned into private chats on WhatsApp and Snapchat. During their interactions, the student shared personal photos and videos. When she asked to meet him in person, Tushar continually avoided her.

Soon after, he sent her one of her own private videos and demanded money, threatening to leak or sell it if she didn't comply. Initially, the student succumbed to the pressure and paid a small amount, explaining her financial limitations as a student.

However, when Tushar continued to demand more money, the student confided in her family and filed a formal complaint.

Investigation and Arrest: The Cyber Police Station in West Delhi formed a team under the supervision of ACP Arvind Yadav. Using technical analysis and intelligence gathering, the team tracked Tushar's activities and identified him as the suspect. A raid in Shakarpur led to his arrest.

During the operation, police recovered a mobile phone containing incriminating data, a virtual international mobile number linked to his criminal activities, and 13 credit cards from various banks. They also found over 60 WhatsApp chat records with women from Delhi and surrounding regions. Preliminary findings indicated that, apart from the complainant, at least four other women had also fallen victim to Tushar's extortion scheme.

Tushar has been charged with cybercrime and blackmailing, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are continuing to uncover his other activities and extend their probe into the case.
