Man arrested for assaulting female student, coercing her to convert
In Udupi, a medical student was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a fellow student and coercing her to convert to Islam, according to Udupi police.
The arrest follows an anonymous complaint lodged at the Manipal Police Station. The complaint alleges that Mohammad Danish Khan (27) befriended a female student from the Hindu community and invited her to his home on March 11, where he allegedly assaulted her.
The complainant also accused Khan of pressuring her to convert to Islam and threatening her with severe consequences if she refused.
The woman reported that, up until August 28, the date she filed the complaint, she had been receiving calls from Khan, urging her to convert to Islam.
Khan, originally from Rajasthan and currently studying medicine in Udupi, was arrested on Tuesday. He was brought before a magistrate and has been placed in judicial custody.
