The Karnataka High Court has provided interim relief by pausing an investigation into a cruelty case filed against a man for allegedly not allowing his wife to eat french fries after childbirth. Justice M Nagaprasanna, while hearing the case, described the complaint as "absolutely trivial" and issued a stay on the investigation against the husband.

The case had been registered under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with cruelty. The court noted that continuing the investigation would be an abuse of legal process, given the nature of the allegations. Justice Nagaprasanna emphasized that allowing the case to proceed would unjustly validate the wife's claims.

The court also allowed the man to travel to the United States for work, after he assured his cooperation with the authorities by submitting an affidavit. The complaint, which also included allegations against the man's parents, had already led to a stay on the investigation concerning them.

In her complaint, the wife accused her husband of refusing to let her eat certain foods, including french fries, rice, and meat, shortly after she gave birth. The husband countered, claiming that during their six-year stay in the United States, the wife had made him do all the household chores, spending much of her time on the phone or watching dramas.

Justice Nagaprasanna further commented that the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued in the case was being misused as a "weapon," highlighting the misuse of legal provisions in this context.
