In Kochi, Kerala, Malayalam actor Bala, arrested by the police on the complaint of his ex-wife Amrutha Suresh alleging that he insulted her through social media and violated divorce conditions, being taken from Ernakulam General Hospital after his medical examination.
Malayalam actor Bala, also known as Balakumar, has been arrested following allegations of assault and misconduct made by his ex-wife, singer Amrutha Suresh. The Kadavanthra police in Ernakulam, Kerala, took him into custody based on her complaint, which includes charges of outraging a woman's modesty and violations of juvenile justice laws.
According to reports from Manorama, Bala’s driver, who worked with him for three years, provided evidence supporting claims that he witnessed multiple instances of Bala physically assaulting Amrutha, including incidents in front of their 12-year-old daughter, Avantika, and other relatives. The driver shared his account on Facebook, stating, “Now, I don't want to hide anything since their relationship is over. Bala had ill-treated her in a brutal manner and I was a witness to it. She had scars on her body for which she had sought treatment. I saw all of this.”
In recent video exchanges, Bala accused Amrutha of preventing him from seeing their daughter. However, Avantika released a video alleging that Bala had misbehaved with both her and her mother. In response, Bala claimed that if Avantika did not want to meet him, he would sever ties with her entirely. Amrutha's complaint further alleges that Bala insulted her through social media posts and emotionally harmed their daughter with his actions.
Bala was arrested along with his manager at his flat in Kochi, and he faces serious allegations including defamation and offenses against womanhood. Authorities indicated that the situation warranted urgent action due to the gravity of the accusations.
As a third-generation member of the Malayalam film industry—his grandfather owned Arunachala Studios, his father directed over 350 films, and his brother Siva is also a filmmaker—Bala made his acting debut in the 2002 Telugu film 2 Much, and his first Tamil film in 2003 with Anbu. However, he is best known for his work in Malayalam cinema, debuting with Kalabham in 2006 and most recently appearing in Omar Lulu's action comedy Bad Boyz earlier this year.
The police confirmed that Bala's arrest follows serious allegations from both Amrutha and Avantika, focusing on public humiliation and mental cruelty. The investigation is ongoing, and Bala is expected to be presented in court later today for further legal proceedings. Authorities have refrained from providing additional comments, emphasizing that the investigation will follow due legal process.
