Liquor Shops to Remain Closed for Four Days Ahead of Election

New Delhi – The Delhi government has declared a four-day dry spell in the national capital ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, imposing a ban on the sale and purchase of alcohol.
When and Why Will Liquor Shops Be Closed?
As per an order issued by the Excise Commissioner under the Excise Rules-2010, liquor shops in Delhi will remain shut on the following days:
February 3 (from 6 PM onwards) to February 5 (until 6 PM)
February 8 (the day of election results)
During this period, the sale and purchase of alcohol will be strictly prohibited, and violators will face legal action. This restriction applies to all liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars, star hotels, and licensed establishments serving or selling alcohol.
Elections in Delhi: Key Details
Polling for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi will take place on February 5 in a single phase.
Election results will be declared on February 8.
This time, 699 candidates are contesting, a significant increase from 272 in the 2020 elections.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has dominated the past two elections, winning 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020. However, this time, AAP faces a tough battle against BJP and Congress.
With political stakes high and security measures in place, the Delhi government has implemented these restrictions to ensure smooth and fair elections.
