The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a liquor ban in 17 prominent religious cities across the state. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav made the announcement on Thursday, emphasizing the government's commitment to curbing alcoholism and promoting these cities as centers of religious tourism.

Key Details of the Liquor Ban

The ban will be implemented in 17 religious cities spanning 11 districts. CM Mohan Yadav stated, “Wherever Lord Krishna’s feet touched in Madhya Pradesh, and wherever he performed his divine acts, those places will be developed as centers of religious tourism. Additionally, liquor will be banned in these locations to preserve their sanctity.”

The cities include:

Ujjain (Mahakaleshwar Temple)

Orchha (Ram Raja Temple)

Mandla (Famous Narmada Ghats)

Maheshwar (Ancient Temples on the Narmada River)

Datia (Pitambara Mai Temple)

Omkareshwar (Jyotirlinga Temple)

Mulatai (Source of the Tapti River)

Jabalpur (Narmada Ghats and Bhedaghat)

Nalkehda (Bagulamukhi Temple)

Salakanpur (Devi Temple)

Chitrakoot (Lord Ram’s Exile Abode)

Mandsaur (Pashupatinath Temple)

Maihar (Maa Sharda Temple)

Barman Ghat and Mandleshwar (Narmada Ghats)

Panna (Jugalkishore Temple)

Amarkantak (Source of Narmada River)

Bhojpur (Mahadev Temple).

Government's Perspective on the Ban

Addressing the media, CM Yadav explained, “Alcohol addiction is destroying families. We have decided to impose a liquor ban in these 17 religious cities to promote societal well-being. This decision is a step towards creating a healthier and more peaceful society.”

The government also plans to develop these cities with world-class facilities to attract religious tourists.

Reaction to the Move

Former Chief Minister Uma Bharti, who has long advocated for prohibition, praised the decision, calling it a significant step. She said, “This is a commendable move by CM Mohan Yadav’s government. This decision aligns with the policy of prohibition announced during our government and is a crucial step toward complete prohibition in the state.”
