The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has imposed a life ban on three senior men's hockey players—Murtaza Yaqoob, Ihtesham Aslam, and Abdur Rahma—as well as the team physiotherapist, Waqas Mehmood, for seeking asylum in Europe. The scandal surfaced when these players missed a national training camp for the Asian Champions Trophy, citing domestic issues. However, it was later revealed that they had traveled to the Netherlands and Poland without informing the federation, using Schengen visas initially issued for team travel, to seek political asylum.

PHF Secretary General Rana Mujahid expressed concern over the impact of this incident on Pakistan's international hockey standing, which has already been declining. He noted that the federation has informed Pakistan's Interior and Foreign ministries to take stringent action. Mujahid also warned that the PHF might face VISA challenges for future international tournaments due to this breach of trust. The decision to impose the life bans was strongly recommended by the PHF Congress and subsequently approved by the PHF President, effective immediately.
