Kolkata rape and murder case, 'take suo moto cognizance', request made to CJI
Another letter petition regarding the rape and murder case at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College has been sent to CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, urging the Chief Justice of India to take suo moto cognizance of the incident. The petition, written by Ujjwal Gaur and Rohit Pandey, calls for immediate intervention in the horrific and brutal rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata.
The letter states that this case is not just a violation of an innocent life, but an attack on the soul of the nation and a gross insult to the ideals of justice and humanity upheld by our Constitution. The brutal manner in which this young life was ended has shaken the collective conscience of the nation. The doctor, who had dedicated herself to the sacred duty of healing and saving lives, was heinously assaulted and murdered in the very premises where she served humanity.
R.V. Ashokan mentioned that the barbarity inflicted on the doctor has enraged medical professionals across the country. The victim was the only child of a middle-class family. The crime was not committed by a single individual, but involved multiple perpetrators. The manner in which she was killed is beyond words.
The CBI, advancing its investigation into the case, has taken the former principal of R.G. Kar Hospital into custody for questioning. The victim’s father raised serious concerns about the hospital administration, questioning how no one noticed her absence from 3 AM to 10 AM, when she was on duty. He expressed suspicion over the entire hospital management.
The trainee doctor was raped and murdered on the night of August 8-9 at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The victim was a second-year MD student in the Chest Medicine department. After having dinner with friends at midnight, she went to rest in the seminar hall, where the tragic incident occurred.
