Kiran Rao's "Laapataa Ladies" is India's official entry for Oscars 2025
Kiran Rao's "Laapataa Ladies" has been selected as India's official entry for the 2025 Oscars. The filmmaker expressed that having her film represent India at the Academy Awards has been a long-held dream, and she now hopes it will secure a nomination. "Laapataa Ladies" tells the heartwarming and empowering story of two brides from rural India in 2001 who are accidentally swapped during a train journey. Produced by Rao’s Kindling Productions and Aamir Khan Productions, the film, released in March this year, received widespread acclaim. It stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, alongside Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma.
On film 'Laapataa Ladies' entering Oscars, BJP MP and Actor Ravi Kishan says, "I am so happy. I am not able to believe this. This is my first film that has made an entry in the Oscars...I give the whole credit to Kiran rao, Aamir Khan, the writers and the cast of the film...We know that this film will be a hit, it will make an entry in the nationals. But we will enter the Oscars, I never thought that. It should be re-released in the theatres and be tax-free for the audience. This movie teaches a lot of things. It is a book in itself...".
