Key Parliamentary Committees constituted, Congress's Venugopal to Head PAC
The Lok Sabha Secretariat announced the formation of key parliamentary committees on Friday, naming Congress leader KC Venugopal as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Sanjay Jaiswal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will chair the Estimates Committee, while his party colleague Baijayant Panda will head the Committee on Public Undertakings.
The Public Accounts Committee, Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU), and Estimates Committee are the primary financial committees of Parliament, tasked with overseeing government accounts and the functioning of public undertakings. These committees have a tenure of one year and include members from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, selected by the members of both houses. In addition to these, there are other department-related standing committees that monitor various central ministries and departments.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat bulletin also mentioned the formation of committees for the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). BJP's Ganesh Singh will chair the OBC Welfare Committee, while his party colleague Faggan Singh Kulaste will chair the SC and ST Welfare Committee.
