Karwa Chauth 2024: What to Do If Your Fast Accidentally Breaks Today for a Successful Puja

An overview of the Karwa Chauth 2024 fast, detailing the observance, challenges, and remedies for accidental breaks in the fast. The significance of worshiping deities and the forgiveness mantra is highlighted, along with the rituals involved in this traditional Hindu festival.

Karwa Chauth

On this auspicious day of Karwa Chauth, married women are observing the fast with great dedication and discipline. However, if someone accidentally breaks their fast, it’s important to know the right steps to take. The Karwa Chauth fast is considered quite challenging, as it involves married women fasting from sunrise until moonrise without food or water, all for the longevity, health, and happiness of their husbands. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on October 20, 2024.

Due to the strict no-water requirement, observing this fast can be particularly difficult, especially for those doing it for the first time. If the fast is broken or disrupted before the puja, it may invite various faults or issues. However, religious scriptures offer remedies for such situations. Here’s what to do if you accidentally break your Karwa Chauth fast:

If your fast unintentionally breaks before the puja, don’t panic or abandon your observance. Instead, join your hands in prayer and seek forgiveness from the deities for this mistake. After making your apology, resolve to complete the fast again. To perform this remedy, first, fill your right hand with water and chant the forgiveness mantra 51 times. Then, offer the water to the moon. This will signify the renewal of your fast.

Forgiveness Mantra: आवाहनं न जानामि न जानामि विसर्जनम्।
पूजां चैव न जानामि क्षमस्व परमेश्वर॥

Significance of the Karwa Chauth Fast: Married women observe the Karwa Chauth fast with utmost devotion for their husbands' longevity. On this day, devotees worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Ganesha, along with performing rituals for the moon and Karwa Mata. The fast is observed without food and water from sunrise until the moon is sighted, and it is only broken after offering prayers and an arghya to the moon.
