Karnataka: Dy SP Arrested for Allegedly Molesting Woman in His Office, Suspended

Karnataka

Madhugiri, Karnataka – A senior police officer in Karnataka has been arrested and suspended after a video allegedly showing him molesting a woman went viral on social media.

The accused, identified as 58-year-old Ramachandrappa, served as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) in Madhugiri, Tumakuru district.

The incident reportedly occurred when a woman from Pavagada visited the DySP’s office to seek help in resolving a land dispute. According to the woman’s complaint, Ramachandrappa lured her under the guise of providing assistance and justice, only to misbehave with her inappropriately behind closed doors.

Incident Caught on Camera

The alleged misconduct was captured on video by an individual from outside the office window. The footage, now widely circulated on social media, sparked outrage and led to swift action by the police department.

Case Registered and Suspension Ordered

Terming the incident as a “serious matter,” a senior police official confirmed that a case has been registered against Ramachandrappa under sections 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority), 75 (sexual harassment), and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The officer was immediately arrested and suspended from service. An Additional Superintendent of Police is overseeing the investigation to ensure impartiality and accountability.

Public Outrage and Political Reactions

The incident, which occurred in Karnataka’s Home Minister Dr. Parameshwar’s home district, has drawn sharp criticism from the public. Citizens and activists have demanded stringent action against the accused officer to set a precedent against abuse of power.

The Karnataka Police Department reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on harassment and violence against women. "We will ensure justice is served swiftly and take every measure to restore public trust," a senior officer stated.

The case has reignited concerns over misconduct within law enforcement and calls for greater accountability among public officials in positions of authority.
