Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday criticized the Congress, accusing it of "brutality" following allegations by an India Today journalist who claimed he was assaulted by Rahul Gandhi's team during a U.S. visit. Speaking at a rally in Doda, Jammu & Kashmir, PM Modi took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi's "Mohabbat ki dukaan" slogan, questioning the contrast between their message of love and the alleged mistreatment of the journalist.

"They say they run a 'shop of love,' but in the U.S., a journalist from our country faced cruelty at the hands of Congress. A son of India was insulted in the U.S. Those who preach freedom of speech resort to brutality," Modi remarked. This visit marked the first time in 42 years that a Prime Minister visited Doda.

The journalist, Rohit Sharma, claimed that Congress workers in Dallas manhandled him while he was interviewing Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda. The altercation occurred shortly before Rahul Gandhi arrived in the U.S. for a three-day tour. Sharma alleged that his phone was snatched, and the entire interview footage was erased after a Gandhi team member deemed his question about Hindu persecution in Bangladesh "controversial."

In response, Pitroda expressed his disapproval of the incident and assured that he would investigate the matter. "I don't condone such behavior and believe in treating journalists with respect. I will look into it," he said, reiterating his commitment to press freedom and dignity.
