Jamaican Prime Minister tours India's new state-of-art-Parliament, plans one for itself soon
On India visit, Jamaican Prime Minister
conceded that his government is working towards building a national Parliament that will effectively serve the business of the country. As part of this initiative, he had the opportunity to tour India’s state-of-the-art Parliament.
"While filming was not permitted inside the deliberation hall, we received a comprehensive demonstration of the functions of both the People’s Council (Lower House) and the Council of States (Upper House).
Both houses operate paperlessly and are supported by electronic voting systems, along with several galleries for the press, diplomats, public observers, foreign delegates, and others.
India’s Parliament has fully embraced technology, making its operations more efficient. In addition to governance, the Parliament features several outstanding elements, including cultural displays that tell the story of India’s rich history, culture, and democracy.
As Jamaica prepares to construct its own parliament, the model here is truly inspiring.
A Parliament is for the people, and our new Jamaican Parliament will reflect the aspirations of our citizens.
It was a privilege to witness the Indian Parliament’s integration of technology with governance, as well as the safety and security measures that ensure the smooth conduct of parliamentary business", he added on X.
