Jailed leader to float new party, announce working committee, father seeks public support

In Ferozepur, Punjab, the father of 'Waris Punjab De' Chief and independent MP Amritpal Singh, Tarsem Singh has confirmed to media, "The party will be launched on January 14 in Sri Muktsar Sahib. A working committee will be announced which will decide on the party constitution and other things... I appeal to the people of Punjab to support the party and save Punjab from various issues like drugs, conversions, farmers...".
Amritpal Singh, the jailed pro-Khalistani leader and head of the Waris Punjab De outfit, is set to launch a new political party in Punjab on January 14, coinciding with the eve of Maghi Mela.
The announcement came from his father, Tarsem Singh, who revealed that the party will be formally introduced in Muktsar district, Punjab. Amritpal, who remains in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under the National Security Act, will take leadership of the party upon his release, according to his father.
Until then, Tarsem Singh will manage the party’s affairs, as reported by PTI. The name of the new political outfit and its agenda will be unveiled at a public event, which will be attended by the Sikh Sangat (Sikh community), Tarsem Singh added.
Amritpal Singh, a 31-year-old radical preacher, has often been compared to the late Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who is a prominent figure in the pro-Khalistani movement. Amritpal’s rise has been marked by his hardline stance on Sikh separatism, and his influence has been growing among sections of the youth in Punjab.
The controversial leader was arrested on April 23, 2023, in the village of Rode in Moga after a month-long manhunt by the police. His arrest followed an intense incident on February 23, 2023, when he and his supporters stormed the Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar.
Armed with swords and guns, they clashed with the police in an attempt to free one of his associates who was in custody. Amritpal Singh had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an Independent candidate and secured a significant victory in the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency, defeating Congress’s Kulbir Singh Zira by a margin of 197,120 votes.
As Amritpal Singh plans his political future from prison, his supporters eagerly await the announcement of the party, which promises to champion the causes of the Sikh community, as well as the pro-Khalistani ideology that Singh has long espoused.
