Background

The tenure of the current DGP, Ashok Juneja, is set to end on February 5, 2025. To ensure a smooth transition, the state government had shortlisted the names of senior IPS officers Pawan Dev, Arun Dev, and Himanshu Gupta.

This confidential list was sent to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for consideration nearly 20 days ago.

Arun Dev Leads the Race

According to Home Ministry sources, Arun Dev has emerged as the leading candidate for the prestigious post. Following the completion of procedural formalities at the UPSC, a recommendation letter has already been sent back to the state government.

Final Decision Underway

The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's Secretariat and the responsible officials have reportedly made their final decision based on the UPSC's recommendations. The official declaration of the new DGP is expected shortly.

Significance of the Appointment

This appointment holds particular importance as it comes at a critical time for Chhattisgarh’s law enforcement and security framework. The new DGP will play a pivotal role in overseeing state police operations and addressing pressing challenges, including law and order and anti-Naxal operations.

The announcement is eagerly awaited, as Arun Dev's potential elevation to DGP could mark a new chapter in Chhattisgarh's policing leadership.
