The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted the first successful flight test of the Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) on November 12, 2024, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha. Launched from a mobile articulated launcher, the missile met all primary mission objectives and demonstrated advanced capabilities, including waypoint navigation and complex maneuvers at various altitudes and speeds. The missile’s performance was closely monitored by radar, Electro-Optical Tracking Systems (EOTS), and telemetry sensors to ensure precise data collection throughout the flight.

The LRLACM, developed by DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment in Bengaluru with contributions from other DRDO labs and Indian industries, is configured for launch from both mobile ground platforms and frontline naval ships. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Hyderabad, and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru, are key development and production partners in this project.

The missile, equipped with state-of-the-art avionics and advanced software, is designed to ensure high reliability and precision in long-range strikes. As a Mission Mode Project approved by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) under the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) procedure, the LRLACM is a crucial component of India’s indigenous defence capabilities.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded DRDO, the Armed Forces, and Indian industry partners for this achievement, emphasizing that the successful maiden test of LRLACM marks a milestone for India’s self-reliance in defense technology. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat also congratulated the team, highlighting the test’s significance in paving the way for future indigenous cruise missile development programs aimed at enhancing India’s strategic defense capabilities.
